Second day of resting a pulled calf muscle, right leg. Went out for two Lands End loops Sunday morning, but only made about 16 — Lands End outbound on white the 2nd time — before the calf got too painful to do more than intermittent walk/run. I think I probably hurt it attacking those inclines around 5 miles in on white.

Run/walked back from Lands End, so I’m counting my mileage as 20 and 37.75 for the week.

So that was June 11. June 9-10 I was in Houston for the wedding of Christin and Grant. Had hoped to get a hotel treadmill workout in on Friday, but didn’t happen.

Have been icing the calf, and it has been improving right along. Will try an easy 6 on the flat levee tomorrow.

Did about 7 miles today. Ran the 4.75-ish Lake Henry little loop, followed by two repeats of 1.1-ish-mile Sanders Mound out-and-back.

Saw a rattlesnake on the outbound joint trail, but it was gone by the time I came back. About 3 feet long, stretched out across the trail in the warm sunshine. Let me go around without even a rattle. Just raised its head a little and flicked its tongue.

Saw Vanessa West and Liz Ryan in the parking lot, heading out, as I was cooling down and getting ready to head home. Had a nice conversation.

Did 46 home office pushups before I went to run.

So that’s about 17.75 miles and 92 pushups so far this week.

Did the Snake course this afternoon — 10.75 miles, I think is what I got when I ran it last time, May 30. Hot and humid, just the way I like it. Took about 2 hours and 2 minutes, but I dawdled some, especially in the first miles, feeling sluggish.

Did 46 pushups in the home office before setting out for Clinton.

Met the Trail Hawks at 7 pm, June 2 for the Night Hawk preview run.

Got behind on my blog entries!

Took a rest day Thursday, June 1.

Friday night, June 2, met the Trail Hawks at 7 pm for the Night Hawk preview run. Did a relaxed-pace Lands End loop while naming two new Trail Hawks — Kathryn “Tongariro Hawk” Martyn, and John “Maui Hawk” Crum. Then Ami Weidler-Hyten and I did a faster 2nd loop, for a 20-mile night, about two-thirds of it after dark. got to bed about 2 am.

Met the Hawks and Mike Goodwin Saturday morning for trail maintenance.

Again met the Hawks and Mike Goodwin next morning, Saturday, June 3 for Trail Maintenance. Ami and I lopped the white trail Lands End to nearly Lake Henry. We ran into Shari Hicks and John Knepper lopping their way forward on white from Lake Henry, with about three-quarters of a mile to go. Got about 4.25 walking miles.

That gives me about 46.5 miles and 138 pushups for the week.

Day off today; back at it tomorrow.
